Workshop Information
[045-02] Advanced level:Visit the Studio and experience authentic lacquer painting and Matcha serving experience
Visitors can try their hand at lacquering a straw or spoon made of wood from Keihoku, Kyoto, using the Kyoto-purified Urushi lacquerware technique.
After learning about characteristics and history of Urushi lacquer, and watching a demonstration by a craftsman, visitors will actually try their hand at lacquering a straw (spoon). Using authentic lacquer, you will be challenged with two processes, "Suri-Urushi" and "Uwa-nuri" (top coating). It takes about 40 minutes to complete the process. Finally, we will offer a tea ceremony experience in the lacquered tea room adjacent to the studio. This program uses a cashew lacquer that does not cause rashes for hands-on experience. [Caution] This program uses pure lacquer, which may cause a rash. Those who have allergies are recommended to attend [045-01]. Please choose the program at your own responsibility.
